If apple cider doughnuts grew on trees, the leaves falling would be the best thing ever. I mean, foliage is already my favorite thing that mother nature has ever come up with (#blessed) but apple cider doughnuts are 100% man’s best invention. Put the two together you you have fall, my absolute favorite season.
I used to think that it was because of my November birthday. As a kid, I counted down the days until I turned year older, and the end of that countdown, the climax of my anticipation was always in the fall surrounded by fall memories: apple picking, corn mazes, halloween costumes, pumpkin pie, fuzzy sweaters.
But as I grew up I started to associate these fall memories with fall itself rather than fall as the time leading up to my birthday. Since then, I’ve found myself intoxicated with all things orange, red, yellow – the crisp way the air sharply slides through my nose, the warm bundles of fresh scarves cozied around my body, the crunch of leaves under my leather boots.
I love it all.
And while this post might seem like a meaningless rant about fall-time tidbits, it’s a lot more than that. It’s a love letter to my soulmate.
Fall just makes me happy. It’s not too hot or too cold. Everybody is happy. It’s the perfect in between that has me waking up excited to breathe in the fresh fall breeze and walk under the falling leaves. And I guess the fact that my birthday is right around the corner doesn’t hurt either.
